Asia Pacific embraces IP telephony solutions

The demand for IP telephony solutions is soaring in the Asia Pacific region, according to a study.

Research by Frost & Sullivan has found that Japan is leading the way in the region, with Australia close behind and New Zealand and Singapore beginning to emerge.

Firms in the region are beginning to realise the cost-saving benefits of IP telephony solutions, and the study also found that the uptake is being fuelled by increased marketing efforts and a growing acceptance of new technologies.

"Intensifying market conditions, geographical challenges, and communication cost have become some of the major drivers of IP telephony deployment within Asia Pacific," the report noted.

"Both small and medium businesses and large businesses across verticals are resorting to the deployment of IP telephony to reduce communication cost and increase their workforce production."

The technology is now beginning to feature in places other than businesses, with IP telephony solutions now appearing in the Australian healthcare sector.

Melbourne-based Medi 7 reported last year that their costs had been cut by 50 per cent, according to ZDNet Australia.
