Credit crunch not affecting Brits' broadband hunger

Nearly every Brit would not remove their broadband connection despite the current poor economic situation, according to a poll from PlusNet.

Their choice of ISP could be affected however, with 34 per cent saying they would look for cheaper broadband if the credit crunch continued, although 58 per cent would like to stay with their current provider, reports ISP Review.

A total of 92 per cent said they would not give up broadband, with 30 per cent preferring to cancel magazine subscriptions or stop smoking and drinking, 14 per cent no longer eating out or getting takeaways and 12 per cent not going to the cinema.

"The survey shows there is a high level of volatility in the broadband market as users shop around for the best deals," PlusNet products director Neil Armstrong told the magazine.

"However, broadband is now so popular and central to the daily life of Britain that few consumers are ready to end their internet connection completely to make ends meet.

"Some are ready to switch suppliers to help with their household budgets but they still want to keep broadband.

He added that many people were now using the internet to find cheaper goods and services, helping them in the uncertain economic climate.
