Analysis from Frost & Sullivan has found that the worldwide telephony market is becoming increasingly dominated by VoIP solutions.

IP-capable lines made up around 71.7 per cent of the 48.4 million lines shipped in 2007.

The analysis estimated total line shipments in 2013 would be 62.1 million.

Though sites with no existing network capabilities are moving straight to VoIP solutions, replacement for existing systems is still the biggest trigger for deployment in the market.

Elka Popova, unified communications program director at Frost & Sullivan said: "Replacement continues to be the main driver for market growth and, more specifically, IP telephony adoption."

The EMEA region (Europe, Middle East and Africa) was found to still be the biggest region in the worldwide market.

Further proof of the growth in IP telephony solutions was found in a report by JupiterResearch.

It predicted that the number of lines in the US broadband telephony market will reach 28.4 million in 2013 - the number in 2007 was 14.7 million.
