Brits want to work on the beach

Brits want to work on the beachResearch by T-Mobile has found that many people in the UK want to take advantage of technologies like VoIP phones and mobile broadband by working outdoors.

The poll, conducted by YouGov, found that 44 per cent of the 2000 people polled wanted to be able to use the internet anywhere, such as on the beach or in the pub - with 78 per cent of office workers wanting more time outside during the summer.

T-Mobile's head of internet and entertainment services Richard Warmsley said: "Mobile broadband has reached a tipping point and is now hitting the mainstream."

He added that T-Mobile's research last year said only three per cent of office workers would like to work on the beach, whereas now 21 per cent of people polled wanted internet access as they relaxed on the sand.

However there was bad news for some users of "old-fashioned" fixed-line broadband.

Some rural areas in the UK are located in "broadband blackspots" where they cannot get LLU broadband and this means they end up paying more for what is effectively the same service.
