Slow uptake of capable VoIP phones in SMBsPosted 3 years 7 months ago in: Telephony technology, VoIP Hardware ![]() Telappliant News: 2008-06-26 Rate this article: Many businesses may be missing out on an opportunity to save money by not investing in IP telephony solutions for their mobiles, according to research. The technology, which allows phone calls to take place via the internet using a process called VoIP (voice over internet protocol), requires the use of phones capable of transferring large amounts of data, like 3G phones. The research by Quocirca, a research and analysis company, found that less than half of businesses plan to implement them. Mark Keenan of RadioFrame Networks, a supplier to the wireless communications industry, said: "The research shows that while interest in new kinds of mobile services is high, good quality voice services and at the right price is what really matters to SMBs [small to medium businesses] today." Mr Keenan cited the fact that some 3G phones have trouble penetrating buildings as a reason for their slow uptake. The research did however predict that use the use of VoIP solutions in SMBs will increase, providing good news for any VoIP provider.
