The number of customers switching to Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) is set to continue to rise, with the possibility of more lines being sold.

Recent research has revealed that more and more solutions providers are choosing to sell VoIP products, reports website CRN.

Figures from the Everything Channel's 2008 State of Technology survey found that 40 per cent of solutions providers are now offering VoIP.

It is thought that the requirements by business for low-cost services and the fact that they offer increased productivity is what is driving the uptake of VoIP.

"VoIP is not just for transport. Customers are asking what they can do with distributed applications across the internet," Robert Keblusek, senior vice president of business development at Sentinel Technology told the website.

Businesses can benefit from VoIP as cost savings are made by using a single network to carry voice and data. In addition, VoIP-to-VoIP phone calls are often free of charge.
