Nearly half of all people have watched video clips or TV on the internet, according to a new survey.

Research conducted by YouGov on behalf of Redback Networks found that 48 per cent of respondents streamed or downloaded online content in the past. A further 22 per cent of those polled had watched video on the internet during the past week.

The survey shows that 57 per cent of people regularly watch on-demand or recorded TV every week.

VHS remains the most popular method for recording content with 27 per cent. Sky+ came in second on 22 per cent, which was followed by internet catch-up services such as BBC's iPlayer on 16 per cent.

"While the good old VHS recorder has created audience demand for time-shifted TV programmes, it is new game-changing internet video services such as the BBC iPlayer which are reshaping how carriers upgrade their networks over time," said Philip Wilton, director of sales and operations in the UK for Redback Networks.
