Aastra announces Aastra 5000 Aastra Telecom has announced the launch of the Aastra 5000, an open-standards-based IP telephony software targetting large enterprises with multi-site networks. The new "2.0" VoIP application can scale from 500 to 150,000 users (15,000 per server) and cover 2,000 sites. The system is based on open access standards and a SIP protocol ensuring it is compatible with all types of terminals. For security the server can be protected via spatial duplication (on a second local or remote server), with automatic switchover in case of problems. This virtualisation can support large enterprises' business continuity plans. The software also includes an anti-virus capability and is compatible with various firewalls. Pierre-Alexandre Fuhrmann, deputy head of product strategy, Aastra, said: "Aastra is already one of the industry leaders in Europeand Aastra 5000 will enrich and complete our portfolio of IP solutions, allowing us to become a major player in the large enterprise market."
