Premiership football club Reading FC has reportedly installed new security applications ahead of its deployment of a new voice over internet protocol (VoIP) system and cashless ticketing trial.

The club is replacing an old VoIP system that had reached the end of its lifecycle, according to IT Pro.

It is also expanding its deployment of VoIP to incorporate a new training complex and a warehouse for sales of merchandise such as replica shirts, scarves and posters.

Reading's IT manager Gerry Hanson told the site he had made the case for investing in a new system for all of the club's rather than buying two new systems for each of the new buildings.

In addition to the VoIP system, the club is also launching a trial project for cashless ticketing and hospitality services.

Around 2,000 fans will take part in the pilot scheme, which will go live ahead of the club's Premiership match against Birmingham City on March 22nd.

Mr Hanson said the system would use swipe cards to give fans access at the turnstiles on match days. They would be able to top up the cards for future games.

Reading FC were promoted to the Premiership in 2006.
