Consumers are becoming increasingly savvy about the limits of some broadband services and are scrutinizing bandwidth speeds more closely, a new study has reportedly found.

Vnunet says that analyst firm In-Stat found that consumers in the United States who are looking for broadband services are placing more and more importance on the amoung of bandwidth that will be available to them as an end user.

The study says many are "actively looking" for service providers that will give them the highest amounts of available bandwidth.

In-Stat analyst Mike Paxton told the site that "As a general rule of thumb in the broadband world, higher bandwidth is better."

According to the survey, the average download speed for broadband users in the US was 3.8mbps, while average upload speeds were 980kbps.

A recent study by Broadband Expert found that average speed of broadband downloads in the UK is 2.95mbps.
