The report from technology analyst comScore found that businesses were turning to mobile broadband at a faster pace than residential users, with 59 per cent of computers on mobile connections being used by companies. Mobile broadband provides uses cellular networks to provide access via PC cards or built-in adapters in computers, mobile phones and personal digital assistants. It differs from Wi-Fi by providing constant broadband connectivity that users can take with them. Wi-Fi allows users to connect to broadband within limited-range hot spots. Serge Matta, senior vice-president of comScore, said that although only around one per cent of US internet users are currently accessing mobile broadband, the technology is poised for "significant growth" over the next few years. "Those ISPs that get ahead of the curve in understanding this emerging market will be best positioned to reap its rewards," he commented. Based in Reston, Vermont, comScore analyses consumer behaviour in the media, technology and telecommunication industries.
