A company formed by North Yorkshire county council with funding from development agency Yorkshire Forward and the European Union has developed a high-speed broadband network to support a new creative industries centre in the county, reports say.

The Scarborough Evening News reports that NYnet, which aims to keep the region competitive by providing next-generation broadband, is now providing an ultra-high-speed service to the Woodend Creative Workspace.

Woodend is a state-of-the-art facility specifically designed for companies working in the digital, media and creative industries. It will use the broadband connection to enable the uploading and transfer of high-resolution images and videos.

NYnet's community and economic development manager Julie Burton commented: "Now that the network is live and organisations come online, it begins to demonstrate the potential benefits for existing businesses to develop - and for new companies to locate to the area."

The Woodend Creative Workspace comprises 52 office units and studios, a business incubator unit for start-ups, conference facilities and a "virtual office" that allows clients to work from home with telephone and broadband support from the centre.
