A government review into the future of broadband should focus on four key areas, according to an advisory group in the sector.

Kip Meek is the chairman of the Broadband Stakeholder Group (BSG) which aims to discuss policy and commercial issues within the industry.

Mr Meek said the review needs to address government intervention, regulation, the development of business models for broadband and policy issues.

A programme of issues set out by BSG last year explained these areas and said they would be "appropriate" for inclusion in a government review, which it also said may be "a very timely piece of work".

In addition, Mr Meek said a second issue worth raising would be whether a large investment should be directed towards the provision of high-speed broadband in the UK.

"My own view at the moment is that this is not going to be the case, and that we will find ways of creating the right investment environment, for the private sector [to contribute]," he concluded.
