Companies adopting a broadband connection should not just use it for faster internet access, it should provide the catalyst to revolutionise their enterprise, according to small business expert Bytestart.

The site says once businesses have established their connection, they should ensure that they are maximising its potential benefits.

Greater speed is perhaps the most obvious benefit. Bytestart says companies should build their customer service around faster response and support times, then use their broadband connection to meet its goals.

Communication can also be greatly enhanced through broadband, it says. Once a business has a connection, it can save on its telecommunications costs by using voice over internet protocol (VoIP) to make calls over broadband.

Typically, the site says, companies will not be charged for calls between VoIP phones.

A fast broadband connection can also save companies money on software, as open source applications can be downloaded for free, while other some internet-based applications mean there is no need for huge hard drives.

According to a recent survey by uSwitch, broadband prices in the UK have dropped by 36 per cent in the last four years.
