Fortnum & Mason looks to VoIP integration

World famous department store Fortnum & Mason has upgraded its backroom IT services with a wireless local area network infrastructure.

Forming part of a £24 million upgrade of its Piccadilly store, the luxury food emporium has created a single network for its data communications and is pondering adding a VoIP telephony system in the future.

Fortnum's interim head of IT, Mahshid Rafizadeh said the upgrade features a "future-proof local area network and structured cabling which will benefit our business, staff and customers alike".

On completion, the new infrastructure will link up the stores electronic sales points and provide wireless access points over a secure network for both its back office and on the shop floor.

The store hopes to take advantage of the addition flexibility offered by the wireless system to move electronic cash tills around the store as necessary to create space for different in-store seasonal displays.
