Firms based in North Wales have been predicted to improve their revenues due to higher productivity prompted by a new fibre-optic broadband network.

Supported by the Welsh Assembly, the £30 million upgrade of internet connections in the area will link up more than a dozen business parks, according to the Daily Post.

The Fibrespeed project is the brainchild of the Deputy First Minister, Ieuan Wyn Jones, who said: "In advanced telecommunications infrastructure is absolutely vital to the kind of economic development we want to achieve in Wales.

"FibreSpeed is a major step in the creation of an infrastructure, which will give a whole range of Welsh companies and organisations a standard of communications services easily equal to the best in Britain."

According to the Welsh Assembly, this new broadband network could almost pay for itself in just one year, with £29 million predicted to be added to the Welsh economy thanks to Fibrespeed.
