UK-based VoIP manufacturer Griffin Internet has announced a new product which aims to boost the reliability of calls made over broadband internet lines.

Called 'Engineered Broadband - Single Priority' (EB-SP) the product allows administrators of the broadband network to assign special importance to certain types of traffic to ensure the data travels quickly and reliably.

By giving priority to VoIP services the broadband service provides more bandwidth to these calls, which should see them be of better quality and be less likely for the connection to drop out mid-sentence.

"We have developed this product in response to the increased demand we have been seeing from partners to use broadband to carry voice as well as email and web traffic," said Andrew Dickinson, sales and marketing director at Griffin.

"EB-SP is the first in our Engineered Broadband family and we have taken the bold step of offering it free until the end of October 2007 to give people the opportunity to experiment with the product risk-free."
