Independent communications provider Timico has launched a new product in a move to provide customers a 'future-ready' VoIP package.

With BT rolling out its 21st Century Network (21CN) across the UK, the connections between current communications systems are changing.

And the new Timico session initation protocol (Sip) trunk connection between a Nortel PBX system and a VoIP server provides a solution that is already able to synchronise with BT's new network, the manufacturer claims.

Trefor Davies, Timico's technology director, said that this new connectivity means the company "can offer customers the ability to overlay added value services, such as VoIP onto their existing PBX without having to make a major capital investment".

He added that Timico's new product should act as evidence of the company's "ability to offer innovative and technically advanced services to our customers".

Sip connections have recently been extolled as a future area of development for VoIP as it translates the voice-calling functionality into a web-based platform.

Last week, ABI Research predicted that by 2012 Sip services will have generated £75 million in revenue.
