With the iPhone hype barely settling down in the US and still set to hit the UK, web-based VoIP service Jajah is attempting to appeal to the users of the new phone.

Jajah is the first provider to be able to port their VoIP client to Apple's iPhone by tailoring their site to work on the phone's Safari browser.

This means users can make calls internationally for cheaper rates than their normal line by using the Jajah VoIP carrier which bridges two local calls with an internet line.

"Jajah is the killer app for the iPhone," said Roman Scharf, the co-founder of Jajah.

"It's revolutionary - by bringing VoIP rates to your iPhone, Jajah saves you so much money you can easily pay for your iPhone with the money you save on international calls."

This follows recent investment in Jajah from computer giant Intel and German-based Deutsche Telecom, prompted by the online VoIP service picking up two million users in its first year of operation.

The iPhone launched in the US over the weekend and sold some 525,000 handsets, according to the Los Angeles Times.

But it has come into criticism for only being available on the AT&T mobile network on contracts with high call costs, especially for international calls.
