Broadsoft's VoIP applications have been selected by Icelandic telecoms firm Siminn to be the platform for residential and business VoIP services across the country.

Demand for internet telephony has been growing in among both companies and private residents in Iceland and now the BroadWorks platform will run alongside Siminn's range of services including hosted PBX.

Smaller businesses (SMEs) and homes are most likely to benefit from the advanced features of the applications as the advanced communications options it offers, such as a fixed number, simultaneous ringing and auto answer, are normally only available with high-cost PBX systems.

"The mobile attributes of the BroadWorks platform mean that even our micro-SMEs now have access to the most advanced telephony services, like auto attendant and using fixed numbers instead of mobile to create the impression of dedicated offices, which were previously restricted to the large corporations," noted Ingvi Arnar SigurjAnsson, product manager of enterprise solutions at Siminn.

"Our new service will ensure our customers never miss a vital call again, which could have a massive impact on improving the bottom line, and we are confident this will be rapidly acknowledged."

VoIP systems have high potential for success in Iceland as the country is consistently ranked among the top five in terms of broadband penetration - suggesting that residents and workers will be well-used to online applications and even VoIP clients.
