Digium has partnered with Vyatta to work together to create easily set-up, integrated VoIP and data systems in one network.

The open source voice communications company has allied with Vyatta to search for improvements to current systems including routing, firewalls and network functionality.

"Presently, various VoIP don't interact well with traditional security devices," Dave Roberts, a vice president with Vyatta told CXOToday.com.

"Traditionally, firewalls try to detect what a VoIP session is trying to do. In most cases they are detected, but in the case of SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) it is hard.

"Essentially our collaboration would enable PBX to notify the firewall of the exact happenings."

While technology sharing is to be a central core of the deal between the companies, profits and revenues remain separate - meaning the focus will likely stay on improving voice and data networks rather than creating sales.
