Most want to work from home

Two thirds of workers would prefer to work from home, feeling they would be happier and more productive if they did, a new study has revealed.

Despite this, the survey by Plantronics found that three quarters of employees are offered no flexibility on where they work from by their job, reports the Press Association.

The tendency to work from home has increased by a fifth in the last ten years, with many citing reasons like the rising price of petrol and the desire to have a more satisfying work-life balance.

Just one fifth of the 1,400 people surveyed would choose to work in an office.

"The suspicion that home workers don't work as hard or waste time is very old-fashioned," Plantronics general manager Paul Clark told the agency.

"Our research shows home workers are more likely to work smarter and multi-task more."

Those in the civil service may be following suit, after a document from the Office of Government Commerce (OGC) recommended that they should work from home and conduct mobile working a lot more.
