Next Generation Networks all positiveNext Generation Networks (NGNs) will have the double benefit of lowering costs while increasing possible capabilities, according to an expert. Ben Burns, of Azzurri, a managed services company, said that NGNs offer the possibility of a huge increase in capacity for the same price or a much better quality of service at a lower cost. "It can be a variety of things very much about either getting more for less or a strict cost reduction on where they [the organisation using NGN] are today," he said. And he added that users should not be concerned about the strength of security in NGNs, because the technology is matured, and has "crept onto the market over the past five or six years". He added: "Now, what next generation services are allowing us to do is drive significant extra capacity over to different sites for a very low cost point." An article published by the Parliamentary Office of Science and Technology in 2007 explained that, compared with traditional telecoms networks which were designed to carry a single service, NGNs have been specifically built to include a range of services like voice and video.
