VoIP hardware for soldiersSoldiers in the Royal Logistic Corps will now incorporate VoIP hardware into their training. The technology will be part of the Joint Combat Operation Virtual Environment (JCOVE), which also uses the commercial computer game Virtual Battlespace, which will let the troops practice techniques and procedures for road convoy operations. Soldiers will be able to communicate via VoIP hardware headsets so they can coordinate their movements and relay information to one another. They will be learning how to operate while under fire and in a variety of scenarios, including being ambushed. "The MoD is committed to training the UK's forces in the best way possible within a relevant contemporary operational environment, with modern effective equipment that promotes confidence," said Baroness Taylor, the minister for defence equipment and support. "The Royal Logistic Corps are the backbone of military supply convoys in theatre. "This latest technology will help save lives on operations." Other hardware included in the package includes steering wheels and pedal sets to control vehicles, as well as classroom control software which lets the instructors maximise training effectiveness.
