BT asks for public partnershipBT has asked public sector organisations to work in partnership with it as it begins its £1.5 billion fibre-based broadband project, which could revolutionise internet use and increase the popularity of VoIP phones. The company has been especially keen for the London Development Agency to work with it to bring the capital super-fast broadband, which already has ADSL broadband supplied from every exchange. "London is already a tremendous broadband success story and this is a great opportunity for the capital to be on the front page of the next chapter of that story," said BT's director for London Emma Gilthorpe. "BT is keen to invest further in the city so it is important that London's public sector works with us to ensure the funds are directed here." VoIP solutions are steadily increasing in popularity the UK and the broadband speed boost could also boost their sales. However, the Scottish Government has been criticised by BT for not embracing the broadband project, according to a report in the Scotsman. The Scottish Government responded to the criticism by saying there was little evidence that the increase in broadband speeds would help economic growth. Posted on: 2008-07-21, in: Broadband |
