Council launches on-demand broadband TV service

Hull City Council has launched an on-demand broadband television service, with the first to benefit from this venture being vulnerable older people in the city.

The Stream Independent Living service uses Internet Protocol Television and will be used to give residents a calendar of local events and information about local services while also offering email communication tools, PublicTechnology.net reports.

It is being launched as part of a transformation of the community care services offered by the council, with the authority looking to take on board telecare and telehealth to improve the lives of older people.

Angela Dunn, head of community care services for Hull City Council, said: "We need to embrace this new technology if we are truly to deliver the government's personalised care agenda."

She added that Stream offers an effective communication system that provides residents with the means of voicing their comments as well as keeping them informed.

The RealYorkshire website reports that Hull boasts eight free museums in addition to retail and leisure centres, theatre and over 180 eating and drinking establishments.
