| 2007-12-12 | IT managers 'show faith in VoIP security' |
Despite the relative youth of VoIP in the technology world, IT managers have few concerns over using it, a new survey suggests.Research by NetIQ found that out of the 66 managers questioned, some 59 per cent viewed the risk of viruses or worms gaining access to company systems through VoIP as "low" or "very low". And a similar lack of concern was shown for voice spam and denial of service attacks as they registered "high" or "very high" ratings from 12 and 24 per cent of IT managers respectively. However, NetIQ chief strategist Ulrich Weigel called on IT decision-makers to make sure their systems remain secure following a VoIP installation. He suggested that the survey shows there is "a worrying complacency among organisations that have either already deployed or are about to install a VoIP infrastructure". He added: "The main focus for organisations has traditionally been on ensuring voice quality and performance, but vigilance with security is equally important."
