Broadband reliability tops business wish-list

Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are more interested in their broadband connections remaining available than being able to hit high speeds, according to new research.

A survey conducted for UK Online found that reliability was the most sought after feature of a broadband provider's offering, while having good quality of service and a fair value for money were also held to be important.

Broadband reliability is becoming key for keeping in touch with clients and the world outside of the office, especially as growing numbers of firms switch to VoIP for the call savings and greater flexibility.

"Despite recent reports in the media, broadband speed is not necessarily topping UK consumers' list of concerns," Chris Stening, managing director of UK Online, told vnunet.com.

"This is particularly true for business users, who have different priorities when it comes to their internet connection."

Choosing the best broadband package is vital for many SMEs as some three-quarters of the 447 companies questioned said they relied on their connection for the success of their business.
