Itspa welcomes European regulator's position on VoIPThe position of the European Regulators Group (ERG) on VoIP services has been applauded by the Internet Telephony Service Providers' Association (Itspa). Some key aspects of the recent report were highlighted as being especially worthy of praise, including the requirement for VoIP services to offer emergency calls and the directive that as much information about the caller's location should be displayed as possible. Itspa chairman Eli Katz told the Bapco Journal: "Most of the ERG's recommendations correspond with ITSPA's own positions over the last two years. "We welcome most of the proposals and hope that the national regulators take this on board to help VoIP services develop across Europe." Mr Katz added that the past few months have seen more effective discussions between Itspa and the UK telecoms regulator Ofcom. "While we don't necessarily meet eye-to-eye on all matters, there are now useful channels available where we as an industry body can raise the issues of concern and discuss them effectively," he said.
