Growth in US broadband take-upThere has been significant growth in the number of subscribers to mobile wireless broadband, according to the latest statistics. Figures from the US's Federal Communications Commission (FCC) showed that the number of US subscribers to mobile wireless high-speed services increase(d) by more than 600 per cent during 2006 alone. Broadband user numbers doubled from 11 million to 21.9 million in the last six months of last year, with wireless broadband subscribers making up 62 per cent of the growth in high-speed lines during that period. Commenting on the findings of the latest FCC report, one industry figure, Steve Largent of the Wireless Association, said that it was clear the companies were doing a huge amount to provide the services that customers asked for. "Clearly the competitive wireless market is proving its value to consumers, and these astounding statistics are evidence that more and more Americans can use mobile wireless as their high-speed on-ramp to the internet," he said, speaking to Cellular News.
