Digium buys up leading Asterisk supporterVoIP developer Digium has purchased Sokol & Associates, a long-time supporter of the company's Asterisk IP PBX system, it has been announced. The deal sees the two companies strengthen their close links and will mean Steve Sokol and the rest of the firm join the leading VoIP technology creator. Now the employees will help develop Asterisk services from within the offices that first created the free, open source VoIP PBX software. Welcoming the acquisition, Digium's co-founder and chief technology officer Mark Spencer said: "Sokol & Associates has run Asterisk training classes around the world and has long been a central part of this community. "By bringing Steve and his group on, Digium gains another conduit to new and advanced Asterisk users around the world." Asterisk is one of the most widespread and commonly used open source products on release and is constantly being tweaked and upgraded, both by Digium and the huge online community of software developers around the world.
