| 2007-06-13 | Infineon announces new low-power VoIP codec |
Germany-based communications solutions company Infineon Technologies has released a new energy-efficitent codec for voice and VoIP-enabled devices. The new Dual-channel Subscriber Line Interface Circuit (DuSLIC-xT) product is aimed at reducing the cost of voice systems like VoIP terminal applications by up to 50 per cent. "As VoIP gains mass market acceptance, our customers are looking to gain additional business in voice terminal application, while extending to untapped markets," said Christian Wolff, a senior vice president at Infineon. "DuSLIC-xt simplifies system design by minimising the development time and [material costs] and paves the way for PC-based VoIP applications that will further fuel customer adoption." High definition audio has been included as a feature of the DuSLIC-xt, allowing the device to act as an interface between a computer and an analog phone. In this way, Infineon says users can make high quality calls over VoIP on their analogue phone by connecting it to a PC or laptop.
