VoIP used to transfer between landline and mobile

The flexibility of VoIP telephony services has been taken a step further by Canadian company Text2it which has started beta trials of a feature to let users transfer calls seamlessly between a mobile and landlines.

"Voice over IP is about more than lower rates, it's also about freedom and flexibility" said Costa Nikols, vice president of sales and marketing at Text2it.

"Our call transfer capability offers exactly that - users can initiate a Text2it call on one phone and transfer it to a different one at any time. Just press a couple of keys on your phone's dialpad and take that call out the door with you".

Aimed at business users who want to keep in contact while on the move, but not have to go through the annoyance of a break in the call when they reach the office, the capability extends Text2it's VoIP service that does not require a broadband connection or a special phone.

Instead, users can use any landline or mobile phone and dial calls by texting a Text2it gateway, which in turn sets up the call using VoIP for a fraction of the normal call cost – allowing users to make use of VoIP anywhere and without special equipment or software.
