New security features for snom phonesPhones made by VoIP hardware specialist snom technology are to gain new security features, it has been announced. The German company has teamed up with BorderWare Technologies to offer encryption-based security on external calls. It is hoped that the new partnership will encourage both SMEs and larger corporations to invest in the purportedly spy-proof technology. Dr Michael Knieling, marketing and sales director of snom, made the bold claim that snom now offers "the most secure Voice-over-IP solution currently available to VoIP telephony providers, ISPs, administrators and VoIP users". Peter Cox of BorderWire echoed these sentiments and said that he hoped more businesses would now be emboldened to adopt hosted telephony. "The snom and BorderWare partnership creates the technological and practical requirements for being able to take advantage of the benefits of VoIP without the risks," Mr Cox claimed. Strong security such as that offered by BorderWare is vital to the future success of VoIP solutions. Security fears were recently identified by Infosecurity Europe as the major reason holding most businesses back from using hosted telephony.
