VoIP- Wi-Fi equipment sales to reach $82bn by 2012New reports suggest that global VoIP over Wi-Fi equipment will see increased revenues of more than $82 billion in the next five years. The North American market will see the largest revenue, with about $35 billion being traded annually, a report from Juniper Research claims. Europe, the Middle East and Africa will generate a combined $23 billion and the Asia Pacific region will witness around $21 billion of revenue. The majority of this revenue (around $68 billion) will come from dual mode VoIP over Wi-Fi/mobile phones, the report claims. Single function handsets will only see revenues of around $1.5 billion by 2012, as consumers favour the dual function approach. Author of the report, Basharat Hamid Ashai, commented: "The handset market is moving to a stage where no one wants to carry two or three devices in their pocket, so the ability to have a single device for all calls is a compelling proposition. "Most single mode VoIP over Wi-Fi handset manufactures are actively either designing or planning to ship dual mode phones". He also predicted that wireless mesh technology, for VoIP would increase over coming years. Mesh networks allow a wireless node to set up a meshed environment in any location.
